The MLA is delighted to announce that a national accounting firm will deliver its exceptional advocacy program during which participants will conduct a direct examination and cross examination of accountant experts, in front of mock trial judges.

Session 1:  Online/Virtual - Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm (Introduction to the program and the case)

Session 2:  Online/Virtual - Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm (Work with accounting experts to understand the issues)

Session 3:  In-person at the London courthouse - Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm (Conduct the examinations)
(All sessions are mandatory)

The program includes the following topics and more:

  • Prepare for and conduct a one direct examination and one cross-examination and receive feedback to improve your advocacy skills
  • Lose any "fear of numbers"
  • Learn how to effectively work with and prepare an accounting expert for trial
  • Understand both sides of common accounting issues.

This program contains 1.5 Professionalism hours and is eligible for up to 4.5 hours of Substantive content.

* Please note that the fact scenario for the mock trial is a commercial litigation case. However, you do not have to practice commercial litigation to participate. There is plenty of time to speak with your expert to understand the  two issues you will be assigned.

If you have any questions about this program, please email Paula Puddy, Interim CPD Director of the Middlesex Law Association at paula@middlaw.on.ca

This organization has been approved as an Accredited Provider of Professionalism Content by the Law Society of Ontario.
