Program Description

The Middlesex Law Association invites you to a half-day conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on the legal profession. This program brings together members of the judiciary and leading product providers to share insights on how AI is shaping case management, client service, and legal research.

Topics include:

  • Judicial Perspectives on AI: A Justice of the Superior Court will discuss the role of AI in the courts, evidentiary concerns, and the impact of technology on procedural fairness with Justice Peter Lauwers and Madam Justice Ria Tzimas

  • AI Tools in Practice: Demonstrations and presentations from product providers on the use of AI in legal research, contract review, and litigation analytics.

  • Risk, Ethics, and Regulation: Understanding lawyers’ duties of competence, confidentiality, and supervision in an AI-enabled practice.

  • EDI Considerations: Addressing algorithmic bias and ensuring equitable access to justice in the adoption of AI technologies.

CPD Accreditation

This program is eligible for 3.0 hours of CPD, broken down as follows: **PENDING

  • 1.0 hour Professionalism: Ethical duties, confidentiality, competence, and supervision of AI tools.

  • 0.5 hour EDI: Addressing systemic bias in AI and equity in access to justice.

  • 1.5 hours Substantive: Legal research applications, judicial perspectives, regulatory updates, and technology demonstrations.

Learning Outcomes

By attending this program, participants will be able to:

  2. Apply professional responsibility standards when adopting AI technologies.
